Report on the sanitary condition of the City of London for the year 1898

During the past year these Inspectors seized 884 tons I cwt. of meat as unfit for the food of man. This condemned meat is classified as under:—

In October last the putrid meat included a
large consignment of pigs' hearts, packed in
barrels in a strong solution of boracic acid, a
fact shown by analysis. They were all condemned
and destroyed by my order.
