Special attention has also been bestowed
upon cases of foul emanations from sewer
ventilators in road-ways, and during 1895
four shafts were erected in front of adjacent
buildings.
It is stated in the Engineer's Annual Report
for 1895, that 260 premises were drained
during the year. Much of this work was
done from plans prepared by my Department,
so far as relates to the interior of buildings;
all work external to the line of frontage
in any structure being within the province of
the Engineer.
In eighteen places, underground conveniences
are now placed in various parts of the
City, containing 164 compartments as urinals,
and 93 water-closets.
The places still used as public urinals
above ground are about 40.
Six water-closets have been provided for
women, but it is in contemplation to erect
one at the Southern end of the Minories.
