Typhoid Fever in a district is considered as a sanitary
index—the more typhoid, and the less sanitary the District,
and vice versa. On this assumption Lambeth shews, during
1895, a satisfactory return.
Typhus and Continued Fever are generally bracketted
with Typhoid under the heading "fever." During 1895,
there were in Lambeth no cases notified, and no deaths
registered, from typhus, and only 20 cases notified, and
two deaths registered, from continued fever, whilst there
were in London five deaths registered from typhus, out of a
total of 15 cases notified (i.e., 33.3% case mortality), and
10 deaths from continued fever out of 107 cases notified
(i.e., 9.3% case mortality).
