5. Digestive System.—The diseases of the various
organs concerned in digestion, were the causes of 182 deaths,
66 of them under five years of age ; 141 in the Town subdistrict
and 41 in Brompton. In the new classification,
Dentition is included in this Order: it was the cause of 12
deaths under five, 7 of them under one year. Diseases of the
Stomach caused 21 deaths ; Enteritis, 48 ; Obstructive Diseases
of Intestine, 25 ; Peritonitis, 19 ; Ascites, 1. Cirrhosis of Liver
caused 22 deaths ; Jaundice and Other Diseases of Liver,
27 (including three under one year); and Other Diseases of
Digestive System, 7 deaths.
6. Diseases of Lymphatic System (e.g., of Lymphatics,
and of Spleen).—No death was ascribed to these causes.
7. Diseases of Gland-like Organs of Uncertain
Use.—(e.g. Bronchocele, Addison's Disease)—Two deaths.
8. Diseases of Urinary Organs.—Of the 68 deaths
ascribed to these causes, 48 were registered in the Town subdistrict
and 20 in Brompton. The diseases were, Nephritis,
11 deaths ; Bright's Disease (Albuminuria), 32/ Diseases of
Bladder or of Prostate, 7 ; and Other Diseases of Urinary
System, 18 deaths.
9. Diseases of Reproductive System.—(a) Of
Organs of Generation—Male Organs, no death; Female
Organs, 11 deaths ; (b) Of Parturition, 7 deaths, viz., Miscarriage,
3 ; Puerperal Convulsions, 1 death, and Other Accidents
of Childbirth, 3 deaths.
10. Diseases of Bones and Joints.—Five deaths;
Caries, Necrosis, 2 ; Arthritis, 2 ; Other Disease, 1.
11. Diseases of Integumentary System.—Six
deaths.
