out the lists of trade premises and businesses with all the
needful particulars as above set out. The workrooms inspected,
measured, and cubed, to date, number 768, viz., 417 in the
North District, and 351 in the South District. It will readily
be understood, therefore, that considerable time and labour
have been expended in obtaining the necessary particulars
and placing them on the permanent record. The Inspectors
were further provided with books for recording the results of
ordinary inspections of registered premises, with ruled and
headed columns for showing 1, Date of inspection ; 2, Number
of persons found in each workroom ; 3, State of workroom as
to warming; 4, Means of heating irons ; 5, Condition of
premises ; 6, Condition of sanitary conveniences ; 7, Dustbin,
position and condition of; 8, Drinking water supply ;
9, General Remarks. Ruled and headed sheets were provided
for the report by the Inspectors of nuisances liable to be
dealt with under the Factory and Workshop Acts, 1878 to
1891, and the Public Health (London) Act, 1891, specifying:
—1, Number of the case; 2, Registered number of premises ;
3, Premises at which the nuisance exists; 4, Trade or
business carried on at the said premises ; 5, Description of
complaint, nuisance, &c.; 6, Date when written intimation of
the nuisance was served ; 7, Works necessary to be executed,
and things to be done, to remove cause of complaint or to
abate the nuisance; 8, Time necessary for the abatement
of the nuisance; 9, Remarks. Lastly, the Inspectors were
furnished with a form of notice to send immediately to the
occupiers of premises at which instances of overcrowding
were observed.
"The supervision of the work of the Inspectors was
delegated by the Works and Sanitary Committee to a SubCommittee
which meets once in four weeks. The Inspectors
attend before the Sub-Committee to submit their ' Complaint
Sheets,' and take instructions with respect to each case. The
