The zymotic death-rate consequently rose from 2•32 in the preceding
year to 2•65, which is almost the same rate as that recorded in the
10 years 1881 to 1890. If to this death-rate be added, as it ought, the
death-rate from membranous croup, which almost to a certainty was
diphtheria, it becomes 2•68.
The zymotic death-rate in London was 3•04, so that the local
death-rate from these diseases in the Parish was 0•37 below that of the
metropolis. The death-rate throughout the London districts ranged
from 5•58 in St. Luke's to 1•32 in Hampstead, which also enjoyed the
lowest death-rate (12•9) from all causes.
