Table II. shews the population of Camberwell and its
sub-districts at the census of 1896, together with my estimate
of the number of inhabitants at the middle of 1898, and at a
similar period in 1899. I base my calculations on the assump-tion
that the rate of increase since 1896 has been equal to the
rate which prevailed during the years 1891-6, the interval
between the last two censuses. I am rather inclined to think,
however, that the real increase is somewhat less.

Table III. gives the total number of births registered
during the year in the Parish, and it shews an increase of 16
on the figures for 1898, which year shewed a decrease of 51 on
1897. There is an increase in all the districts except in
Peckham, which has a decrease of 68.
