over the parish, no district heing exempt. A special report
relating to the occurrence of scarlet fever and diphtheria in
the neighbourhood of Mill Lane was submitted to the Vestry
in June. Three fatal cases occurred in one family living in
Loveridge Road, in March; and three children, members of
one family, died in Ingham Road, in May, from this disease.
There is no question that some families are very disposed to
throat affections and easily succumb when attacked.
Personal infection from communication in schools, and
from returned cases from hospitals, was found to be one cause
of the spread of disease.

Complaints of sewer emanations, largely due to the want of flushing water in the closets, and to the prolonged drought, were carefully gone into by your officers at the time.
