The number of deaths of children under one year of age
(Parishioners; see Table A at end of Report) was 204; the
percentage of such deaths to registered births was 13.64,
and to total deaths of parishioners, 16.76; thus the mortality
of children under one year of age was 136 to a thousand
births, or 9 less than in 1892, while in London generally it
was 164, and the average for the 33 largest English towns
was 181, the highest being Leicester, 204; Burnley, 213;
and Preston, 223, deaths of children under one year of age
to a thousand births.
