DEATHS OF YOUNG CHILDREN.
Nearly half the deaths (1,467, that is 45 per cent.), were those of
children aged less than five years. This gives a rate of 75.0 calculate
1 upon the estimated population of young children.
OLD PERSONS' DEATH RATE.
The deaths of elderly persons, that is to say those over 65 years
of age, numbered 501. This gives a rate of 69.6 per thousand,
calculated on the estimated population of old persons.
