Table IV. gives the birth-rate per thousand of the
Parish, and that of its sub-districts calculated on the assumption
that the population has increased in the same ratio during
1897 that it did per annum in the quinquennial period,
1891-1896.

The total number of deaths registered in the Parish
amounted to 4,525. From this number must be deducted the
deaths that occurred in St. Saviour's Infirmary which amounted
to 620, but on the other hand there must be added 472 deaths
of parishioners that occurred in institutions outside the Parish;
so that the correct total from which the death-rate is to be
calculated from is 4,377, compared with 4,726 in 1897. Last
year, however, the year was composed of 53 weeks. So that
if it be wished to draw an exact comparison between the deaths
registered in 1896 and 1897 it will be necessary to make a
deduction from the 1896 figures corresponding to the extra
week in that year. The average number of deaths per week
was 89, so that compared with 1897 they numbered 4,637.
The deaths spoken of above of those persons natives of the
Parish who died in institutions outside have been re-distributed
among those parts of the Parish from which they were removed;
