To the Chairman and Members of the Wealdstone
Urban District Council.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my Annual Report
upon the Public Health and Sanitation of the District
for the year ending December 31st, 1920. This is
the twenty-sixth Annual Report it has been my duty to
present since I was appointed Medical Officer of
Health in 1894. The report is arranged in accordance
with the instructions of the Ministry of Health.
NATURAL AND SOCIAL CONDITIONS OF THE
DISTRICT.
POPULATION.
The Registrar General supplies the following figure
as the estimated population for 1920, 13,743.
BIRTHS.
There were registered during the year 312 births,
viz. 159 Males, and 153 Females.
The Birth Rate per 1,000 of population is therefore
22.7. In 1919 this rate was 16.0 There were 13
Illegitimate Births registered.
The Birth Rate for England and Wales in 1920
was 25.4, and for the 148 Smaller Towns (20,000 to
50,000) 24.9, and for London 26.5.
DEATHS.
The total number of deaths during the year was
115, viz., 51 Males and 64 Females, affording a Death
Rate of 8.3 per 1000 population, as compared wiht 7.4
in 1919.
The Death Rate for England and Wales in 1920
was 12.4, and for the 148 Smaller Towns 11.3 per 1,000
population.
