COUNCIL'S HOUSING SCHEME.
The seven bungalows in Canning Road, Byron
Road, and Palmerston Road have been completed
during the year and are now occupied.
On the Montrose Road Site 23 houses are in
course of erection, and 16 others in Montrose Road,
and Byron Road, which forms part of the Weald
Village Site. These 39 houses are to be completed by
the end of September and from all appearances will
then be ready for occupation, as the contractor has
already made good progress.
WEALD VILLAGE SITE.
The sewers and roads on the first section of the
site are practically completed and ready for the erection
of the houses. The Council have advertised on two
occasions for tenders for further houses, but the
prices have been too high to warrant the Council in
accepting them and the London Housing Board
approving them.
When the whole of the estate is developed this
will relieve the overcrowding which now exists.
OTHER SERVICES AND GENERAL.
Public Sanitary Conveniences.
May I again quote the paragraphs relating to this
subject from my Reports of 1915 and 1919. "The
need for these is in my opinion very urgent as the
district is at present entirely without this very necessary
accommodation." The need now is even more urgent
than at the time this paragraph was written, and 1
trust that the Council be able to put the work in
hand at an early date.
