In connection with this subject I beg to advise that
the Council apply for an Order under Section 51 of the
Public Health Act Amend. Act 1907 dealing with Offensive
Trades, Businesses, or Manufactures.
I advise this principally on account of the increased
powers it would give us in dealing with the
trades of Fish Fryers and Rag and Bone dealers.
REPORT OF THE WORK OF THE WEALDSTONE
MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE CLINIC.
This has been a Voluntary Undertaking, worked in
co-operation with the Local Authority (from whom it
received a grant annually) until March, 1920, when it
was taken over by the Council. It was started by Dr.
Tchaykovsky nearly five years ago, and owing greatly to
her energy and a successful combination of voluntary
and medical workers the undertaking has been very
successful in its work of improving the health and
knowledge of mothers and babies attending. The work
developed into much larger dimensions as time went on
and a crèche, and ante-natal, dental, and eye clinics, as
well as a massage and minor ailments clinic, were arranged
for, and have been well attended. In connection
with this work a Harrow and Wealdstone Maternity
Hostel was opened in March, 1919. Since then 40
Harrow patients, 23 Wealdstone, 10 from outlying districts,
1 Harrow Weald, and 17 private patients have
been attended there.
The following is a summary of the work done from
April, 1919, to March, 1920 (the Clinic was closed from
December 31st to March 31st).
