the School Medical Officer. Each inspector has been
allotted a portion of the extensive area under the Middle
sex Education Committee.
During the year 1909 two routine inspections of
children were made in the schools in Wealdstone of those
children eligible for routine examination as also of other
children whose condition needed examination. The
total number of children examined was : Girls, 259;
In all cases where defective conditions are found, the
parents are advised to seek medical advice, unless the
condition is one with which the parent can deal, in
which case the necessary directions are given.
In addition to the routine inspections, visits are also
made to the schools at other times for re-examination of
children, to see whether improvement has taken place in
their condition, and whether the defects found are being
attended to.
Special visits are also made for examining cases of
ringworm, and in all doubtful cases specimens of hair
are subjected to microscopical examination.
Notice of routine examination is given to parents
so that they may attend if they desire, and this they
largely do.
