SLAUGHTER HOUSES.
There are 3 registered slaughter-houses in the district,
which have been systematically inspected and reported
on during the year. One is quite modern and upto-date
in construction, but the other two are, more or less,
of a makeshift character, although kept in a proper sanitary
condition. The provision of a Public Abattoir,
where all meat could be inspected before being offered
for sale, is one of the requirements of the future, which
will have to be considered before very long. One lot of
unsound food was dealt with and destroyed with the
sanction of the purveyor, who himself, called the attention
of the Sanitary Officers to the case.
FACTORY AND WORKSHOP ACT.
A tabulated record of the work done in this connection
will be found in the form supplied by the Home
Office for that purpose attached to this Report. Employers
are called upon under the Act to notify the Local
Sanitarv Authority twice a year of the names and
addresses of all their out-workers.
Seventeen inspections of factories (including laundries)
were made and 126 inspections of workshops.
Fifteen written notices to make good defects were sent.
These defects were want of cleanliness (9), deficient ventilation
(11), drainage of floor surfaces (7) ; other
nuisances (3). All these were remedied.
