To the Chairman and Members
of the
Wealdstone Urban District Council.
Gentlemen,
I have the pleasure to present to you my Annual
Report for the year ending December 31st, 1898, which I am glad
to say shows a very satisfactory death-rate.
The estimated population of the district, as near as I have
been able to judge, is 5,000.
The registered deaths number 47, of which 23 were males
and 24 females.
The death-rate works out at 9.4 per 1,000 living.
This is satisfactory as will be seen from the following figures
for the last 5 years :-
DEATH-RATE.
1894 17.2
1895 14.0
1896 10.1
1897 9.7
1898 9.4
In the March quarter 11 deaths were registered; June
quarter, 3; September quarter, 20; December quarter, 13.
The heavy death-rate in the September quarter was due to
epidemics of Measles and Diarrhœa, which were prevalent in a
severe form during August and September. Had it not been for
this our death-rate would have been a record one.
The following is the distribution of deaths according to age :-
Under 1 year 14
Over 1 year and under 5 9
„ 5 „ „ 15 3
„ 15 „ „ 25 3
„ 25 ,, 65 9
