To the Chairman and Members
OF THE
WEALDSTONE URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL.
Gentlemen,
I have the pleasure of submitting to your
notice my Annual Report for the year ending
December 31st, 1897.
Estimated
Population.
I estimate the present population of the district
at 3,600.
The registered deaths number 35, and the
births 88, of which latter 43 were males and 45
females.
Death Rate.
Our death rate works out at 9.7 per 1,000
living, and the birth rate at 24.4. Compared with
other years the death-rate stands thus :—
1894 17.2
1895 14.0
1896 10.1
1897 9.7
You will be glad to notice that this is a further
improvement from the low rate which I was able
to announce for 1896, and must afford us the
greatest satisfaction as being the direct result of
our efforts to improve the sanitary condition of the
district. By a continuation of these efforts, I
venture to hope that in time we shall make the
death-rate of Wealdstone one of the lowest in the
country.
