Every advantage is taken of the assistance and
co-operation of such bodies as the Hospital Savings
Association, the Invalid Children's Aid Association, and
the Grays Cripple Children's Fund, both in the matter
of In-patient and Out-patient treatment.
NATIONAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION
OF CRUELTY TO CHILDREN.
I am indebted to Inspector F. E. Sacret for the
following details of work in the riverside area during
1931—
Cases investigated 41
Children concerned: Male 50, Female 34 84
Offenders concerned: ,, 34, „ 39 73
Supervision Visits paid 197
Classification of complaints:
Neglect to obtain Orthopaedic treatment 13
„ ,, other medical treatment 5
General neglect 14
Ill-treatment 3
Miscellaneous 6
Cases reported by—
(a) Medical Officer of Health 22
(b) School Officials 2
(c) Other Officials 2
(d) Public 15
Although only one case resided within the Orsett
Rural District, the general result shows an increase
over the preceding year. I am of opinion that prosecution
followed upon conviction by the maximum
penalty would have a salutary effect upon habitual
offenders, upon whom experience has shown that warnings
have no lasting impression.
