It will be seen that a considerable portion of the
district is not covered by Nursing Associations. In
addition to the two mentioned above, the south portion
of the Parish of Stifford is covered by the West
Thurrock Nursing Association, and during the year I
made representations to the County Medical Officer
concerning the difficulty in obtaining midwifery assistance
in North Stifford. I understand that eventually
the County Council have agreed to subsidise a Midwife
for this district. A considerable portion of the district
(Mucking, East and West Tilbury) is so sparsely populated
that the provision of nursing assistance becomes
very difficult. There are, however, other portions of
the district (Orsett) where I have tried for some years,
without success, to awaken interest in this matter.
The Hospital Home Comforts Committee, established
during the year 1926, has continued its useful
work during the year. The Medical Officer of Health
continues as Chairman of the Committee. The Depot
was inaugurated in order to meet the demands of an
industrial population in times of illness and is in a
position to supply any article required in a sick room at
a nominal charge.

daily, and the following Sub-Centres—Tilbury, Cliadwell-St.-Mary,

year 1928.
