126 Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
There are only three other Boroughs in London, viz.:—
Lewisham, Kensington, and Hampstead, where the average
number of persons per room was smaller, the average for the
whole of London being 1.07.
If these statistics are correct it shows that in the Borough
of Wandsworth there cannot be so much overcrowding as in
some of the other Boroughs.
There has been some addition to the housing accommodation
during the year by the erection of new houses (1) by the London
County Council, (2) by the Borough Council, and (3) by private
enterprise. The total number ???erected and occupied was 718,
and the number in course of erection at the end of the year was
246.
The action taken by the Borough Council is referred to in
more detail in previous reports.
In conclusion I am pleased to be able to report that during
the year under review the whole of the staff of the Department
have carried out their duties in a most thorough and conscientious
manner.
I have the honour to be,
Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
P. CALDWELL SMITH.
