Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The superintendent visits the homes of the children to see that
the doctor's instructions are carried out. No visiting by untrained
workers is allowed.
Each Centre, with the exception of Putney and Fairfield,
has a separate session for ante-natal work—at Putney it is held
concurrently with the Infant Clinic and from Fairfield the mothers
go to the Springfield Ante-natal Clinic in Earlsfield Road.
The next Table summarises the work done at all Centres.
There were 2,640 new cases registered during the year, the
total number of attendances was 31,264, 49 were transferred to
other Centres, 816 were passed on to the London County Council,
and 79 died.
The total number of ante-natal cases on the registers during
1921 was 796, the attendances numbering 1,755.
The superintendents' visits to infants totalled 10,284, and to
ante-natal cases 83-3. 183 health talks were given.
In Clapham a course of 12 lectures on Infant Care and
Mothercraft was given by the Medical Officer of the Centre.
Needlework classes were held at each session of the antenatal
clinic throughout the year, and of the Infant Clinic for nine
months.
In Putney a course of six lectures on Hygiene were given
in the spring, and in the autumn a course of 12 needlework
classes were held.
In Streatham needlework classes are held on alternate
Wednesdays.
In Tooting needlework classes are held at every ante-natal
session.
At Springfield Infant Welfare Centre 12 needlework classes
were held in the spring, and a course of 10 Health lectures was
triven in the autumn. The mothers from the Southfields and
Fairfield Infant Welfare Centres attended both these courses.
626 attendances were made by the Health Visitors to the
Infant Clinics, and 168 to the ante-natal clinics.
