Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Sputum Examinations.—The number of sputum examinations
made during the year shows a large increase on previous
years, 1,054 specimens being examined, compared with 601 in
1920, and 204 in 1919. Of these, 247 or 23.4 per cent. gave a
positive result. The increased number is due, mainly, to more
frequent examinations of pulmonary cases giving a negative result,
a procedure which is very necessary in order to arrive at an
accurate opinion of their condition.
Cases of all Years Compared.—Table LIII, shows the
number of new cases and total attendances at each of the Dispensaries
for the nine years during which they have been open.
