of various general hospitals within the metropolis to which Deptford

Ambulance Facilities.
Infectious cases are removed by the special ambulance service of
the Central Authority (see footnote*). This service is also available
for the conveyance of patients who are not suffering from infectious
diseases on payment of a moderate fee. The ambulances of the British
Red Cross Society are also available.
County Council ambulances are available for use in accidents, and
also for the conveyance of expectant mothers for whom urgent necessity
arises during the night. Application is made by telephone and all
patients booking at the Council's Maternity Home are given a card of
printed instructions regarding these facilities.
* During the year under report these services were administered by the Metropolitan
Asylums Board. On the 1st April, 1930, under the provisions of the Local
Government Act, 1929, the functions of this Authority were transferred to the
London County Council.
