NON-INFECTIVE DISEASES.
The total number of deaths from Cancer and malignant
disease was 510, the number of males being 210 and females 880.
The corrected death-rate was 1.54 per 1,000 for the whole
Borough:—1.70 for Clapham; 1.81 for Putney; 1.62 for
Balham; 1.54 for Streatham; 1.25 for Tooting; and 1.85 for
Wandsworth.
The number of deaths in 1982 was 20 less than in 1931.
The number of deaths from diseases of the Brain and
Nervous System was 124.
1,27!) deaths occurred from diseases of the Heart and Circulatory
System, compared with 1,197 in 1981, 1,000 in 1080, and
1,277 in 1929. 985 of these deaths were of persons over 65 years of
age.
There were 444 deaths from diseases of the Respiratory
System, compared with 492 in 1981, 420 in 1980, and 784 in 1929.
The number from Bronchitis was 28 compared with 270 in 1981,
and from Pneumonia (all forms) 180 compared with 191 in 1981.

The number of infants tinder two years of age who died
from these diseases was 88.
130 deaths, 78 males and 57 females, were registered as due
to Premature Birth and Developmental Diseases, compared with
146 in 1981.
170 deaths, 54 males and 116 females, occurred from Old
Ago, and all these except one were persons over 65 years of age.
The number of deaths due to this cause in 1981 was 140
198 deaths were due to Violence, 129 of them being due to
accident, 62 to suicide, and two to other forms of violence.
Inquests.
Inquests were held on 294 persons dying in the Borough,
and on 107 Borough residents who died outside the Borough.
