majority of these cases were reported by teachers at the elementary
schools, and in arriving at this figure 158 cases, which proved after
investigation not to be suffering from Measles, are excluded.
37 cases died during the calendar year, and 38 during the
epidemic year.
116 cases of German Measles were also reported.
Table XVII. shows the number of cases of Measles and
the deaths from the disease for the last nine years. The upper
portion of the Table, which gives the figures for each year commencing
the 1st October, shows clearly the biennial increase
which occurs in the incidence and mortality. The figures for
each calendar year are also given for purposes of comparison.
500 cases were removed to hospital, compared with 167 in
the epidemic year of 1930.
100 cases requiring special home nursing were referred to
District Nursing Associations in the Borough, compared with
95 in 1930, and the nurse made 997 visits to these cases, compared
with 1,003 in 1930.
The death-rate per 1,000 of the population was .10, compared
with .13 in 1930, and .10 in 1928.
5,305 visits were made by the Sanitary Inspectors and
Health Visitors to houses where cases of Measles occurred, and
272 premises were disinfected at the request of the occupiers.
