First Commissioner of H.M. Works, to commend a proposal
for the formation of a new road across the site of the
prison in continuation of Earl-street. The decision of the
Government was awaited at Lady-day.

This Committee have assembled twenty times, Mr. H.
Bowman Spink having been re-appointed to the Chair
and Mr. Fergusson to the Vice-Chair at the first meeting.
The enforcement of the Acts affecting the public health
devolves upon this Committee, and necessarily gives a
routine form to much of their business. This has been
varied, however, by the preparation of sets of bye-laws
required by the Public Health Act of 1891 ; by the consideration
of the steps to be taken upon the retirement
of Inspector Lightfoot, through ill-health, and by the
discussion of various points of practice occasioned by the
new duties imposed by recent legislation.
