Measles were most prevalent in July last year, after which the
number of cases decreased, and though in February this year
they rose to 21, yet 110 deaths have been reported since January.
Scarlet Fever was also most prevalent in July, but though the
number of cases during the year have been 111, there has not
been one death.
Diphtheria has averaged about 4 or 5 a month, the highest
number (6) being in July and December; but there have only
been 3 deaths out of 50 cases, whereas last year from 53 cases
there were 13 deaths.
Erysipelas has averaged about 6 a month, but there have been
no deaths.
Enteric Fever.—About one case a month has occurred, with
4 deaths.
places where the greatest number of cases have
occurred.
Measles.—Peabody-buildings, 19; Lillington-street, 18; Romney-street,
14; the Convent, 12; Vauxhall-bridge-road, 11; the
rest mostly scattered about.
Scarlet Fever has not been confined to any particular part of
the parish: Bessborough-place and Ponsonby-place both 5 cases;
Vauxhall-bridge-road and Raphael-street, 4; otherwise it has
generally occurred in single cases.
Diphtheria.—Vauxhall-bridge-road, 4; otherwise only 1 case in
a street.
Erysipelas has also been scattered about.
Enteric Fever was not confined to any particular part.
Everything points to the improved condition of the sanitary
arrangements preventing the diseases when they occur being of
so dangerous a character, as this year out of 629 cases there were
only 39 deaths, whereas last year when there were 547 cases,
64 of them proved fatal. The disease which was in excess of
last year was measles; all others of a zymotic character were less.
A detailed report of all the sanitary improvements effected
having been placed before you at each monthly meeting, a further
reference to what has been done is now unnecessary, the only
matter to which I would draw your attention being the condition
