cost of asphalte pavingworks—were taken up during the year.
The total sum in respect of which the parish rates are
mortgaged was thus bought up to £17,993. The advances
were obtained of the London County Council and, as regards
those above referred to, are repayable by instalments
extending over twenty-five years as to the wharf, and over
five years as to the asphalte.
The Vestry gave their consent to the borrowing
by the Public Library Commissioners of £7,000
and by the Baths and Wash-houses Commissioners
of £15,000, for the purpose of defraying (with the £10,000
which has been already conditionally granted) the cost of
purchasing land and of erecting new baths and library
buildings in Great Smith-street. These loans are repayable
in thirty years.
