we find, presented to the Finance Committee by the Vestry
Clerk after our audit last year. In our judgment such an
analysis is of great value as showing the wards in which the
" losses " (so-called) are heaviest, and as specifying the causes
to which such "losses" are attributed. The ratepayers are
to be congratulated upon the very small per-centage (.27) of
avoidable losses sustained, as shown by columns 8 and 9 of
table II.
We also note that the amount of recoverable rates outstanding
at Lady-day was £1,648 6s. 10¾d. this year as
against £3,733 2s. 4½d. last year, and that the total per
centage of sums not collected (empties, &c.) is less this year
by .65 per cent.
Every readiness has been shown by the official staff to assist
us to penetrate as thoroughly into detail as we might wish.
