Report of the Medical Officer of Health for 1931.
Compulsory Purchase Orders were made for the whole of one
area and a portion of another, as the Council's intention is to use
the sites for re-housing purposes. The former has been confirmed
by the Minister but in the latter case the Minister was unable
to confirm the Order. Clearance Orders have been made in
respect of the other eleven areas. Eight were confirmed by the
Minister without Inquiry as no objections were lodged. One of
these was withdrawn as the Council acquired the property. In
the remaining two cases Public Inquiries have been held on the
Clearance Orders but the Minister of Health's decision has not
yet been received.
If this decision is favourable the number of houses to be
demolished in the thirteen areas is 123. The Council is required
by law to accommodate the families living in these houses and
provision for this has been made in the programme. The number
of families to be accommodated is 121, consisting of 516 persons.
The names of the areas and the date on which each was declared
a Clearance Area by the Council are given in Table XXXV.
