Diphtheria.
393 cases occurred, compared with 866 in 1930, 724 in 1929,
and 568 in 1928. The number of deaths was 17, compared with
30 in 1930. The death-rate for 1931 was .04 and the case mortality
was 4.3 per cent.
The rate per 1,000 of population was 1.11:—1-26 in
Clapham; .48 in Putney; .79 in Balham; 1T2 in Streatham;
1.65 in Tooting; and 1.19 in Wandsworth.
Of the 393 cases, 385 or 97 per cent., were removed to
hospital and no difficulty was experienced in having cases
removed promptly.
