Registration of Premises for Sale of Ice Cream.
I have received the following report from Mr. Syms on the premises
used for the manufacture or sale of ice cream.
The premises within the Borough used for the manufacture or sale
of ice cream, during the year under review, are as follows:—
Registered for sale and manufacture 142
Registered during 1935 7
Discontinued during 1935 49
Registered for sale 86
Registered during 1935 30
Discontinued during 1935 36
Itinerant Vendors 74
Discontinued 1
Systematic inspection of all premises used for the manufacture or
sale of ice cream has been carried out during the season of sale, March to
September.
Registration of one maker had to be withdrawn owing to unsatisfactory
conditions and the case was dealt with by the Health Committee
in April.
Considerable alteration and improvement was called for in 19 makers'
premises and minor improvements carried out in most of the others.
In regard to fresh applications for Registration the requirements
of the memorandum were rigidly enforced. Considerable pressure was
brought to bear on the efficient sterilization of all plant, and I am happy
to say that this matter now receives the attention it warrants.
One factory for the wholesale manufacture of ice cream has been
extended by the erection of a new building which will be in occupation
during 1936.
Among the smaller traders concerned with the sale of ice cream
on their own premises the policy of providing modern refrigerator equipment
has been stressed with gratifying results.
The Italian ice cream trade is on the whole well conducted and the
conditions satisfactory.
