When each newly notified case of Tuberculosis is visited, the Nurses
urge all "contacts" to attend at the Dispensary for an early examination
by the Tuberculosis Officer. Such examinations can be made as frequently
as the contacts themselves desire, and in the case of delicate members
of a family it is always stressed that such members should attend the
Dispensary at frequent intervals so that they may be under constant
medical supervision.
During the year 5,080 such visits were paid by the three Nurses.
ISSUE OF SHELTERS, ETC.
In the case of patients to whose homes are attached either yards or
gardens, shelters can be lent if the patient so desires. Under this
arrangement the patient is able to live and sleep in the open air, and at
the same time, if there is overcrowding in the home, the use of a shelter
is a very useful means of alleviating such overcrowding.
Patients requiring an extra bedstead, but who are unable to afford
this added expense, can be loaned a bedstead from the Dispensary. In
many cases this allows the patient to sleep alone even though the room
may, under difficult housing accommodation, have to be shared with
another member of the family.
HOME NURSING.
The Ranyard Nursing Association and the Benson Nursing Association
have very willingly carried out home nursing to bedridden patients who
were either unwilling to enter an Institution, or who were too ill to be
removed to a Hospital.
CO-ORDINATION OF DISPENSARY WITH OTHER
HEALTH SERVICES.
During the year under review the complete co-ordination between
the L.C.C., the School Medical Services and the Maternity and Child
Welfare Services of the Borough has as ever been well maintained.
Most satisfactory relations between the L.C.C., the Ministry of
Pensions, the Medical Practitioners in the district and the Dispensary,
have existed during 1935.
