The number of fatal cases being 18 as against 10 in 1930.

INFLUENZA.
The deaths from Influenza during the last 5 years:—

This disease was not very prevalent during the year. There are no
reasons for any special remarks.
When there is a threatened epidemic, leaflets are circulated through
the Borough.
PUERPERAL FEVER AND PUERPERAL PYREXIA.
12 cases of Puerperal Fever and 36 cases of Puerperal Pyrexia were
notified during the year.
The whole of the former and 28 of the latter were removed to
Hospital.
There were 5 deaths from Puerperal Fever. (See Maternity and
Child Welfare report.)
OPHTHALMIA NEONATORUM.
This is a disease of the eyes occurring in infants shortly after birth.
It is preventable, and the prevention lies entirely in the hands of the
doctor or midwife attending the birth.
20 cases occurred, as against 28 in 1930. No cases of blindness
occurred as a result.
