The Borough Council proceeded by means of a Compulsory Purchase
Order, under Part 111 of the Housing Act, 1925, the Order to be cited
as "The Lant Street, etc., Compulsory Purchase Order, 1931."
This Order was subsequently confirmed by the Minister of Health
and became operative on July 1st, 1931.
The Borough Council have had under consideration what further
steps should be taken, and have resolved that, in view of the consequential
high value of the site, it was unsuitable for development for housing
purposes.
The site has now been cleared by the Owners of the property.
DODDINGTON GROVE.
Part III, Housing Act, 1925.
The Minister of Health confirmed the "Doddington Grove Compulsory
Purchase Order," and Blocks A and B are being proceeded with.
ORPHAN HOME, AUSTRAL STREET.
The above site comprising 31,000 super feet, was inspected with a
view to the erection of flats, and the Council approached the Ministry
with a view to the sanction of a Compulsory Purchase Order.
The financial considerations, however, were not favourable, and
the Minister declined to confirm an Order.
The project was therefore not proceeded with.
HARD STREET AREA.
This area was originally represented as an Improvement Scheme
under Part II of the Housing Act, 1925. Subsequently, the London
County Council decided that, consequent upon the passing of the Housing
Act, 1930, their previous decision to deal with the area under the
Housing Act, 1925, became ineffective.
They then passed a resolution declaring the area to be a Clearance
Area under the Housing Act, 1930.
Since that time, owing to financial consideration it appears that
if this scheme is to be proceeded with, the Borough Council will have to
take some action in the matter.
