Apart from the visits paid by the Borough Tuberculosis Dispensary
Staff, the Honorary Secretary of the Care Committee visits, or arranges
for the visit of every adult case before they go away and after their return,
to see that any help needed is, if possible, given. The Committee wishes
to thank the various agencies that make the help possible as, apart from
a grant for extra nourishment administered by the Tuberculosis Officer
to special cases requiring it as part of their treatment, the Council has
no funds of its own.
Contributions are required by the London County Council from
the patients' families towards the cost of their treatment when circumstances
permit. Our Committee recommended the amounts in the cases
of 253 adults and 73 children which came before it in 1931. The families
of 48 adults and 28 children contributed sums varying from two shillings
to twenty shillings.
Should any adverse change occur in the family circumstances, leave
is asked of, and always given by the London County Council, to return
the payments either for a time or altogether.
We conclude by giving warm thanks to all societies and individuals
who have co-operated with us in our work in trying to carry on the war
against Tuberculosis.
L. ASHE,
Hon. Sec.
