contact refuse to have him back, even though the Sanitary Authority
is willing to allow him to return, there is no fund from which compensation
can be paid in so far as a Borough Council is concerned, and such a
claim would not be allowed by the Ministry of Health.
Inquiry has been made at the Ministry of Labour Employment
Exchange on the subject of a man's eligibility for Unemployment
Benefit in such circumstances. It is understood that a claim made by a
contact would, in the special circumstances, be submitted to the Chief
Insurance Officer of the Ministry of Labour for decision, but it is doubtful
whether the claim would be allowed unless he can prove he is available
for, and seeking, work.
SCARLET FEYER.
This disease was not so prevalent as in the year previous, and was
very mild in type. Three deaths occurred during the year.

DIPHTHERIA.
A diminution in the number of cases notified occurred, bnt this was
unfortunately accompanied by a rise in the number of deaths, which
amounted to 22 as opposed to 13 in the previous year.
The application of the Schick Test and immunisation of susceptible
cases was commenced during the year, a report of which is appended.
Antitoxin is supplied free of charge, and 31 Phials of 4,000 units
have been supplied to Medical Practitioners in the Borough during the
year.
