HOUSING.
During the year 1929, the number of houses granted to families
from Southwark by the London County Council amounted to 80. They
were distributed as follows:—
Downham 24 Becontree 41
Hendon 14 Tottenham 1
The slum clearance scheme in Hatfield Street and Paris Gardens
area, which was represented by me to the London County Council in
1926, is now practically completed and the following insanitary parts of
the property have been removed from our midst:—
Bennett Street Hatfield Place
Broadwall Hatfield Street
Collingwood Street Meymott Street
Columba Court Paris Gardens
Crosset Place
The Hankey Place area has also been demolished, which was
represented by me, also in 1926.
This includes 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 21, Hankey Place.
The Hard Street area amended in consultation with representatives
of the London County Council is still under consideration, and the
following streets and premises are included in it, and will be dealt with
by the London County Council shortly:—
Hard Street Angle Street
Kingston Street Blackwood Street
Townley Street King and Queen Street
East Street Beddome Street
Morecambe Street
During the year 1929, the following blocks of buildings have been
erected in Southwark:—
Church Army Dwellings, Hankey Place (9 flats) 1-9, Elgood
House.
Church Army Dwellings, Hankey Place, (6 flats) 10-15,
Daryngton House.
Medway House, Hankey Place (27 tenements).
