The assistance of the invalid Children's Aid Society has been
invaluable, and the value of preventive work among children delicate and
predisposed to Tuberculosis cannot be over estimated, and is no doubt
the cause of the lessened incidence during the last few years of the
cases of consumption between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five which
were formerly so common. The Care Committee—formerly the "interim
Care Committee"—was during the year formally made a Statutory Committee
of the Council, and the Council is represented on it by the
Chairman and two of its members. Miss Ashe kindly continued the
work of Honorary Secretary to deal with the actual cases, and has supplied
Table "K" giving an analysis of the cases dealt with by the
Committee.
During the year the dispensary was painted and decorated inside
and out, and a few necessary repairs attended to. On the whole we
have made considerable progress during the year, both as regards the
work in the dispensary and in the condition of the patients' houses, and
great credit is due to the staff for their steady and persevering work in
their task of trying to prevent and lessen this insidious disease.
I beg to append tables of statistics showing the work done during
ihe year of 1919.
I am, Sir and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
HORACE WILSON,
Tuberculosis Officer.
