The Road Foreman's wages, whose duties include the directing of the masons
and paviors (also the Steam Road Roller), amounted to £134 2s. 6d. Four
masons, on average, and their labourers, were employed in repairing the footways,
and over trenches opened by the Gas and Water Companies and Post Office
Telegraphs; their wages for the year amounted to £588 7s. 8d. The Companies
