The Road Foreman's wages, whose duties include the directing
of the masons and paviors, also the Steam Road Roller, amounted to
£117 0s. 0d. Four masons on average, and their laborers, were
employed in repairing the footways and over trenches opened by
the Gas and Water Companies and Post Office Telegraphs; their
wages for the year amounted to £576 0s. 3d. The Companies
contributed £415 10s. 5d. for labour, use of tools and mortar, and
£160 9s. 10d. for material required in the said repairs. Other

contributions for paving, &c., amounted to the sum of £253 18s. 3d.,
part of which was due and paid to the contractor.
The contractors supplied 1950 -superficial feet of Victoria patent
stone for use in repairing the footways, at a cost of £56 17s. 6d.,
16,500 superficial feet of new 2½-in. tooled York paving, at a cost of
£536 5s. 0d., and 504 lineal feet of edge Curbs, 12 granite Quadrants
and 200 feet super of Moorstone, at a cost of £62 13s. 0d.
The following quantity of stone, in addition, was re-dressed by
piece-work in the yard at the cost stated:—
1958 feet run granite edge curb £40 16 0
55 feet Moor stone 1 16 8
Spur stones and granite blocks worked 1 7 0
SEWERS WORK.
The following works, at the cost stated, have been executed by
the contractor during the past year —
Holywell Row—
174 feet run, new 3ft. 6in. x 2ft. 4in., Egg Shaped Brick
Sewer. House drains, 3 gullies and connections, air shaft
and gratings and flushing box connection £135 15 5
