Private drain work. One hundred and six new house drains
(from sewer to line of frontage), reconstructions, &c.,
£278 Os. 8d.
Ditto—by the Vestry's workmen. Sixteen re-constructions, &c.
(from sewer to line of frontage), and openings, &c., to unstop
drains, £15 3s. 10d.
The sewers in the following localities are in a very unsatisfactory
condition, and should be re-constructed—
Elemming Street (portion of)
Little Leonard Street
Plough Yard
Dove Row
Dunloe Street
Four flushers, on average, with labourers were employed in
cleansing, disinfecting, re-constructing, repairing, &c., the sewers,
drains and gullies in the parish ; their wages for the year amounted
to £499 18s. 11d.
The sum of £36 9s. 0d. was also paid for watchmen's wages.
Three men have been constantly employed cleansing the Parish
urinals (including Sundays and holidays) in the early morning);
their wages for the year amounted to £179 12s. 9d.
The sum of £322 17s. 2d. was received for 131 cases of new
private drains, re-constructions, &c., during the year, and paid into
the Treasurer's Account.
The sum of £85 18s. 0d. was received for 163 licenses to erect
hoards, scaffolds, &c., and for renewals during the year, and paid
into the Treasurer's Account.
The sum of £5 6s. 6d. was received for cutting in 71 coalplates
during the year, and paid into the Treasurer's Account.
THE MORTUARY.
The public Mortuary, situated at the rear of Saint Leonard's
Church, having become dilapidated and dangerous through defective
foundations and drainage, was pulled down during the past
year and rebuilt by contract, under the supervision of the Assistant
Surveyor.
