REPORT OF THE SURVEYOR.
Surveyor's Department.
Gentlemen,
I beg to submit a summary of works, &e., carried out
under the superintendance of the above Department during the
year ending the 25th March, 1887.
MAINTENANCE OF ROADS.
The following quantities of material were supplied by the
Contractors at the cost stated, and used on the macadam and
ballast roads in the Parish during the year :—

The Contractor for broken granite, supplied by tender, and
delivered in January last, about 50 tons of granite spalls, costing
£44 4s. 3d., to be broken up by any "unemployed" men seeking
work. As no applications were received the material remains in
stock.
During the year 410¼ cubic yards of old pebbles, York, etc.,
were broken up, costing £51 5s. 7½d., and loaded and carted for
repairing the roads at a further cost of about £51 5s. 7½d.
Forty-one "unemployed" men, taken on during the week
ending March 26th, 1886, broke up about 44¼ cubic yards of old
granite cubes, &c., at a cost of £5 10s. 7d. in wages.
