In consequence of the use of the Steam Holler the unpaved
roads are, generally speaking, in a satisfactory condition.
STEAM ROAD ROLLER.
The Roller was at work 212½ days during the past year, and
about 13 men on average, under the superintendance of a foreman,
were employed in scoring, rolling, sweeping and watching the
highways; the amount expended in labour was £850 18s. 8½d.
During the latter part of January the men were occupied at the
Red Lion Stone Yard breaking up pebbles, &c., owing to the
severe frost; and again during February and March they were
occupied at the Flemming Street and Red Lion Stone Yards,
in attendance on the men who were temporarily employed
breaking stones.

together with the cost of same, and other details:—
