REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH,
for the
YEAR ENDING 25th MARCH, 1885.
Gentlemen,
4,936 births—2,484 males and 2,452 females; and 2,871
deaths were registered in the twelve months ending 25th March,
1885. Deducting the deaths (292) which occurred in Holborn
Infirmary, the mortality was 20.80 per 1,000 living, being slightly
below the average of the last five years, which was 21.57 per 1,000.
The largest number of deaths was registered in Haggerstone
Distriot, in which is situate Shoreditch Infirmary.

The following statistics show the rate of mortality in the different Registration Districts of the parish:—

662 deaths occurred in the public institutions of the parish, viz:—
296 in Shoreditch Infirmary, 292 in Holborn Infirmary (situate in
Hoxton New Town), 43 in the North Eastern Hospital, and 31 in
Hoxton House.
