SAINT LEONARD, SHOREDITCH.
To the Lighting Committee of the Vestry of Saint
Leonard, Shoreditch.
April, 1881.
Gentlemen,
I beg to submit the following tables, shewing the
operation of the average meter system during the third year.
The total cost of gas, lighting and extinguishing, cleaning,
repairs, painting and maintenance for the year is £5331 10s. 1d.,
or £3 16s. 1d. per lamp. The total number of lamps now
in use is 1405, 13 of which are paid for by railways and theatres,
7 additional lamps have been fixed and put in lighting during
the year, 4 discontinued and 26 removed from one position to
another more favorable.
The testing apparatus, supplied for testing the governors
and burners, is in working order, and avoids the necessity of
sending them away to be done, except those requiring to
be repaired.
326 opal tablets, with the names of streets in black
letters burnt in, have been affixed to lamps at the corners of
streets, which facilitates strangers finding the streets they require,
especially after dark.
I am, Gentlemen,
Yours obediently,
CHARLES DOUGHTY,
Inspector.
