The sum of £40 15s. 6d. was paid the Inspector for supervision
of the Water Carts during the watering season.
The sum of £128 16s. 9d. was expended for extra labor in
clearing away snow from the channels and centre of roads, during
the nine days, from 20th to 29th January, 1881.
As regards the general condition of the Parish, I may state
that as a very little has been expended in carriageway paving
during the year, the paved carriageways are not (with the
exception of new work) in very satisfactory order.
The following certainly require to be repaved at once in order to
prevent accidents—
Clifton Street
Pitfield Street
Bevenden Street
Commercial Street
and Shoreditch, from Commercial Street to Great
Eastern Street.
The unpaved roadways, in consequence of the use of the
steam roller, are getting in a very fair state.
In consequence of the very small amount expended in footway
paving, a great many of the footways are in a very bad condition,
and certainly require early attention. Reports and estimates for
new work, in addition to those already submitted, will be laid before
the Vestry in due course.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
GEORGE CHARLES PERRETT,
Surveyor.
Town Hall, Old Street,
June, 1881.
