that upwards of 18,000 loads of dust were removed during the
year.
SCAVENGING.—The system adopted by the Vestry two years
since of accepting the proposals of two contractors, viz.:
one for the Eastern and one for the Western Division, has
been found to work satisfactorily, and is the means of getting
the work done in an efficient manner. Despite the long and
severe winter, the complaints were very few.
WATERING THE ROADS.—The system of hiring vans, carts,
horses, men, &c., to water the roads and streets, under
the immediate supervision of the Vestry's officers, has worked
well.
