smaller burners, we have, lamp for lamp, 14s. l0d. worth less
gas. There is, however, a real saving of nearly 1s. l0d. per
lamp in lighting, cleansing and maintenance, which would give
a total of 10s. 5d. per lamp; but against this has to be set the
proportion of the cost of providing meters, &c., 1.10th of
original cost, and the cost of repairs to ditto, and Inspector's
salary^-about 5s. 4d. per lamp, and we get the actual reduced
cost per lamp at lis. 4d.
About 151^ lamps have been added at the commencement
of the New System. The lesser number under the old system
would have cost the Parish £5,678 18s. 6d. per year. The
total cost of the whole number, including the 151½ new ones,
for the past year is £5,619 6s. 8d., as against £5743 0s. 4d.
actually paid for the previous year, being £123 13s. 8d. in favor
of last year.
We find, therefore, that we have added 151½ lamps, and
supplied, maintained and lighted them at a less cost of £59
lis. lOd. than the smaller number would have cost, and we
have also the satisfaction of having the work done under our
own supervision, and thus a means of ensuring greater care
and efficiency, which we have no hesitation in saying will
result in a saving and advantage to the ratepayers.
All of which is respectfully submitted.
(Signed) D. KING,
April, 1879. Chairman.
